SAN Manager (Storage Area Networks)- (posted 30 April)

General Understanding of specific technologies (such as programming techniques, network operations, data base products, telecommunications, operating systems, GUI technologies, data ware housing, SAN,, Assembler coding, MVS mainframe Technology, Geoplex/Sysplex, TSM, etc.) as appropriate to the family of systems being supported.
This position is also responsible for working with clients and the Managers to evaluate and establish strategies for future system maintenance and enhancement activity that will be required to meet evolving business needs. The Manager will work to interpret client priorities over multiple system suites to ensure that IT is appropriately responding to corporate needs. Where significant levels of senior management or cross-organizational involvement is required, the Manager will serve as a coordinator to interpret and act on the needs of the corporation. Manage and organize work to maximize the utilization and effectiveness of the work force; including responsibility for the supervision, productivity and accountability of the personnel, contractors, material and supplies.
Special & Technical Knowledge:
Masters degree preferred or Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, MIS or equivalent plus a minimum of 10 years IT job related experience. Minimum 5 years supervisory/management experience, preferably including IT projects planning and control or equivalent job related experience. Strong conceptual understanding on how computer systems are designed, constructed and operate in the company's computing environment.
In depth knowledge of development and maintenance methodologies, standards and policies. Ability to design, negotiate and manage multiple service level agreements. Provide leadership to IT on client goals and requirements as the key "client advocate" for the business unit or organizational area. Establish career development plans with direct reports. Partner with clients in the achievement of client goals and objectives and establish IT actions designed to accomplish same. Effectively communicate to client status of section activities and develop plans to address client concerns regarding work schedules and priorities. Interact with senior corporate management, client management, System Managers and other IT departments (particularly Solutions Management). Delivery of client solutions on time and within budget. Ensure the ongoing integrity of production systems through adherence to policies and guidelines regarding change management and control. Meet or exceed all prescribed service level agreements with client. Identify opportunities to improve system reliability and performance and work with clients to make needed process changes and prioritize necessary enhancements. Maintain all appropriate system documentation and source code in a manner that facilitates effective support efforts in the future.
